Blackhole in the Blueprint

The Story Of Teacher Abuse In San Diego City Schools

read ALAN BERSIN AS CALIFORNIA SECRETARY OF EDUCATION

These are all outside links (for as long as they last):

The failures of Mr. Bersin in San Diego are even more chilling when we examine the “achievement gap” (AG) of high school seniors.  ...

Mr. Bersin’s admitted violation of criminal law in his capacity as district Superintendent, his mismanagement of Prop MM funds, his refusal to obtain an “in-depth” audit of district books, his non-transparent use of district resources and test score results, or his six-year “reign of terror” against SDCS parents, students, teacher’s aides, non-certified district personnel, principals, assistant principals, teachers, vendors, subcontractors, general contractors, and other members of the business community.

Despite his rocky history with the San Diego teachers union, Bersin said he expected to be able to work with the powerful California Teachers Association.

Blueprint for Success, Recipe for Disaster

false claims made during the Blueprint debate that electives would not be affected (they were) and that high achieving students would not be affected (they were).

November 18, 2003 - Last year this administration thwarted publication of the well-respected Independent American Institute for Research report on our controversial "Blueprint," because of the report's content. Subsequently this administration and the rubber-stamp Board majority of three dropped the contract with AIR.

...it was clear that the intent was for all students to use the same curricula... That makes a great deal of sense if you are thinking in terms of economies of scale.  It makes no sense whatever if you consider individual variability in raw ability, interest, and background.

The report card!

The San Diego, California, Blueprint For Success is Dead

Eli Broad, who is based in Los Angeles and is worth nearly $5 billion, is a fan of so-called "non-traditional superintendents" like Bersin who come from outside the education world. The Broad Foundation has funneled more than $5 million towards the implementation of the Blueprint. Bersin gets top billing...
